Celebrating Lean Six Sigma Yellow and Lean Green Belt graduates across UBC on May 30, 2024

On May 30, the Project Management Office hosted its biannual ceremony at the Performance Theatre in the AMS Student Nest to celebrate our most recent Lean Six Sigma Yellow and Lean Green Belt graduates who completed a rigorous program to become officially certified as Lean & Six Sigma practitioners. A total of 36 graduates were celebrated, including 12 from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Janice Weigel, Senior Director of the VPFO Project Management Office addressed the graduates, thanking them for their efforts and dedication to the program and Bruce Wiesner, Associate Dean of UBC’s Sauder Executive Education was present to remit the certificates. The Project Management Office expresses a special thank you to UBC Sauder School of Business for their partnership in this program and our graduates for driving forward projects that will have a true impact on our operations at UBC.

True to the Lean philosophy on Continuous Improvement, this event was much more than just to celebrate; as recognizing achievements and milestones like reaching a new level of performance and finishing projects brings closure and a sense of accomplishment. It’s a way to step off the treadmill to pause and consider the progress made so far — and it motivates people to climb the next hill. In addition, it optimizes people’s contribution and engagement, drives good habits and develops true cultural enablers that will drive success at UBC

The Lean Six Sigma training program is open to all staff at UBC. Next training dates are: August 27-28 for the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt and October 21-25 for the Lean Green Belt.
